Two People Die, Four Injured In Migori Mine Accident

Tragedy struck the gold mining community in Nyatike, Migori County, as two miners lost their lives when rock debris unexpectedly collapsed on them inside a mine in the Akala area. The incident also left four others injured, requiring urgent medical attention at Migori Referral Hospital. Kephas Ojuka, chairperson of the Migori County Artisanal Miner’s Association, confirmed the grim occurrence.

Initial reports suggest that the miners were engaged in prospecting for gold when the tragic accident occurred, with rock debris suddenly dislodging from the mine wall, claiming the lives of two miners and causing injuries to four others. Among the injured, one miner sustained severe injuries while the remaining three suffered minor wounds.

The mine had reportedly undergone inspection by engineers just hours before the fatal incident, raising questions about the circumstances leading to the collapse. As investigations are launched to ascertain the cause of the accident, the mining community is left grappling with shock and sorrow over the loss of lives and the injuries sustained in the tragic event.
