Goons Raid Okiya Omtatah’s Rural Home

In a disturbing turn of events, a group of unidentified assailants launched a violent attack on Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah's residence in Kwang'amor Village, Busia County, on the morning of Wednesday, March 3. The senator himself was away in Nairobi at the time, having departed the previous evening.

According to Omtatah, his brother's wife was confronted by the intruders around 3:00 am, who aggressively demanded to know the senator's whereabouts. The situation quickly escalated as they assaulted her, leaving her with significant injuries. Fortunately, she received prompt medical attention at a local mission hospital, where she was treated and discharged. However, further medical evaluation was recommended for Thursday.

Remarkably, the attackers didn't steal or damage any property, raising questions about their motives. Law enforcement authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the brazen attack.

This harrowing ordeal comes on the heels of another dangerous encounter for the activist. Just weeks prior, on March 22, Omtatah narrowly escaped harm when a group of armed individuals trailed his vehicle as he left the court premises in Busia. The situation escalated into a perilous confrontation, prompting Omtatah to seek refuge at the heavily guarded Busia Agricultural Training College. Fortunately, he emerged physically unscathed from the incident, although his vehicle sustained minor damage.

These alarming events highlight the dangers faced by individuals advocating for justice and accountability in Kenya. Omtatah's unwavering commitment to his cause despite these threats underscores the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
