Talanta Hela U-19 football teams are poised for success in the Costa Daurada Cup in Salou, Spain, according to head coach Stanley Okumbi. Following victorious semi-final performances by both the boys and girls teams, Okumbi exudes confidence that they have what it takes to triumph over the hosts in the finals scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
In a thrilling encounter at the Futbol Salou Stadium, the boys team secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory against Berango FT. Kenya's goals came from Austine Odongo and William Gitamu, the talented left winger from Bandari FC. The team's progression to the final sets up a rematch with Usurbil FT, whom they defeated 2-0 in the pool stage.
Reflecting on their journey to the final, Okumbi attributes their recent loss to Nastic Soccer Academy as a motivating factor that spurred the team's improvement. He commends his players for their resilience and notes their continuous progress leading up to the final showdown.
On the other hand, the girls’ team, under the guidance of coach Jackline Juma, secured their spot in the final by overcoming Antiguoko Ke with a narrow 1-0 victory, courtesy of Elizabeth Mideva's goal. Juma expresses pride in her team's performance and emphasizes their determination to clinch victory in the final against Sporting de Portugal.
Interestingly, both finals will feature rematches from the pool stage, with the boys and girls teams having previously defeated their respective opponents. This sets the stage for intense and highly anticipated showdowns as Talanta Hela U-19 aims to make their mark on the international stage and bring glory to Kenya.
